When I come to lead worship I pray that God will use me to inspire true worship in the midst of his people as they gather I don't desire to be the focus of attention, but to be a conduit into the divine. This is a high calling which I don't take lightly. I want to get out of the way and let God's people worship.
To be sure, you can worship God anywhere and at any time, but the Scripture reminds us not to neglect the gathering of the people together. The Psalm writers often call to others saying things like 'hey everybody join me and let's give thanks to the Lord.'
Worship can be done by one's self, but it is most certainly not an individual activity. Worship is a corporate thing.
